In search of decent grocery store dog food

Our 3 dogs have been a bit picky with their dry food lately. Since our Chinook can’t afford to lose any weight I figured I’d try adding some canned dog food to their dry. In the past I have made dog food out of leftovers, which they LOVE, but it is not always possible to do that. So I sent one of my daughters out to the store. On the way out the door, she asked what to look for (to avoid) on the label. I did a quick search and came up these brief guidelines.

The Bottom Line if you’re looking for a superior meat-based dog food remember these three powerful secrets to help you find what you’re looking for:

Avoid any dog food made with animal by-products

Avoid any dog food made with generic animal protein

Favor a dog food when high quality animal protein ranks near the top of the ingredients list

Whenever you come across a product that violates one (or more) of these important rules, do your dog a favor… and take a pass.

If you can, shop at your local Natural Pet supply store and ask questions. If you find the prices are high, talk to them to see if there are any special discounts available. I find the local stores are always open to working on the price in order to gain a regular client.

In this case my daughter was only able to go to the local grocery store. BUT, Good news! She came back with Newman’s Own Organic cans of Dog food.

Here are their ingredients.

Thank you Newman’s Own for a good wholesome product.

I would love to hear what you feed your pets.

26 Seconds

Hello Friends!

Do you think about what you put on for skin care or are you simply on autopilot?

When you get washed up and ready for the day, what products do you pick?

Did you know that whatever we put on our skin sinks into our blood stream in 26 seconds? When I first started on my journey to Natural Health after my own health scare, I didn’t even think of it. It wasn’t until I had a friend share with me this tidbit of info that it all started to click.

26 Seconds!

Yikes! Of course! How had I missed it? I became mad at myself for foolishly trusting in the media to educate me when basically they were just telling me what they want me to spend my money on.

So this tidbit of knowledge opened up a whole new can of worms.
What about hand lotion? deodorant? hand sanitizer? my make-up? lipstick? sunscreen? my soap? hair products? The list goes on and on.

And we wonder why Cancer and various other health problems are on the rise in the USA.

For me, it was COMPLETELY OVERWHELMING to start thinking this way. My encouragement to you is to Breathe, and start slow. Pretty soon it’ll become second nature.

Educate yourself.

PS. Here’s a fun little video on the Toxic 12. It’s about 10min long but a great 101 on ingredients.

Hello Friends 🙂

Here we go! A little panic runs through my head. The site is all designed. I finished the About Me section. Now where to begin. If I listen to the voice running through my head I guess I just dive right in. I’ll learn how to tag, categorize and whatever else along the way.

My goal is to share with you information that I learn and trust about Health with some of my other passions thrown in for good measure.
I look forward to having you join me on this Journey and hearing about your successes.
